Claire Adams holds a Master's of Urban Studies from Simon Fraser University (2024) and a Master's of Arts from the University of Glasgow (2012). She has experience working in both professional and academic settings on a diversity of planning and policy issues. She is driven by a desire to make communities more equitable, just and caring, as well as by her lived experiences of navigating the child care landscape in Vancouver.
Addressing the child care gap in British Columbia
Claire's PhD research seeks to identify spatial gaps and social inequities within BC’s formalized child care system; examine the drivers of these inequities and their impacts on caregivers; and assess municipal and provincial policy interventions that can mediate these impacts. Her research draws from theories of spatial justice, the right to the city, and feminist social reproduction theory. Claire intends for her work to bridge the gap between academic theory and practice by shaping policy to create tangible, socially just outcomes for caregivers and children.
