I have worked with GIS for approximately 18/19 years, and have pursued many interests alongside GIS. For my first year I worked in Geophysics, collecting data through the electrical signatures produced when delivering current to the ground, and measuring the charge some distance away. I then went on to work in Environmental Engineering/Consulting for 14 years.
Starting out as a Project Scientist doing a variety of things, I continued to work with GIS, which continued to stoke my curiosity. I worked with bigger and more complex data, before becoming interested in the mix of business, science and data. This led me to pursue a Business Analysis Certificate, and work to develop the role of GIS throughout the large engineering firm I worked for. I then joined a small, start-up consulting firm lead by Aaron Licker, which was focused on serving spatial analysis, largely to the planning community. While there I continued to work on a number of projects for various organizations (including municipalities, regional districts, and the BC Government) on a number of different projects (including climate change, transportation planning, equity, and others). After a little over 3 years, I joined Esri Canada, where I am a Strategic Advisor, working with various GIS groups in organizations across Canada.
