Bio and CV
Emilie Adin is the City of New Westminster’s Director of Planning and Development Services. While she’s a city planning “generalist” and municipal leader, her greatest passions in planning policy today are affordable housing, social equity, and climate action. Emilie has written widely on these issues, including with the PlanGirl Travels column in Planning West magazine. She’s also been published by the Globe and Mail, Plan Canada, Kinesis, and Herizons magazines. Emilie is a proud signatory to the 2020 Declaration for Resilience in Canadian Cities, which responds to the steep challenge that the pandemic has created for the planning profession.
Emilie’s professional planning work has been recognized by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Canadian Institute of Planners, the Community Energy Association, QUEST (Quality Urban Energy Systems of Tomorrow – Canada), the Union of BC Municipalities, and the Planning Institute of BC.
As a planning professional, Emilie values the importance of mentoring future generations of planners, including high school and college students, SCARP students, candidate members who are seeking certified membership in CIP/PIBC, and planners who are new to the region, province, or country.
Emilie holds a Master in Planning from the UBC School of Community and Regional Planning and has several other credentials including Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional with the Canada Green Building Council. Emilie is a Registered Professional Planner with 25 years of experience in planning practice. Beyond Emilie’s passions described above, her greatest joys outside of work are her kids, her garden, x-country skiing, and swimming in lakes.
