Background
The Government of Canada has recently announced some changes for international undergraduate and graduate students wanting to study in Canada. The changes include a new cap on the number of international students in Canada and changes to the visa process.
With the new changes made by the Canadian government concerning international study permits, UBC is here to provide more information for international students in our community. UBC wishes to reassure the student community that this new cap still gives UBC enough room to welcome all qualified students who wish to join.
UBC's Provosts have issued an official update regarding the situation, including the following key points:
- These changes do not apply to students who already hold study permits, nor will they affect study permit renewals.
- UBC degree programs (i.e. Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degrees) continue to remain eligible for the Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP).
- The new cap still gives UBC enough room to welcome all qualified students who wish to join us.
- We value our international students and our priority is to support their academic success.
