SCARP Planning Studio team win PIBC Student Fellowship Award
Maddi Parent, Sydney Edwards, and Rory Buckman, student awardees
March 9, 2023
SCARP is proud and excited to announce that one of our Planning Studio student teams has been awarded the PIBC Student Fellowship Award, and will be brought in to present their work at PIBC's Annual Conference!
About the PIBC Student Fellowship Award
Each year, the Planning Institute of BC selects one outstanding piece of academic work produced by a PIBC student member from one of the Institute in good standing who is currently enrolled in one of their accredited schools.
Those awarded are invited (with funding and accommodation) to attend PIBC’s Annual Conference, and to personally present their academic work to professional colleagues and conference attendees as part of the conference.
The 2023 Annual Conference, It Takes a Village, will be held in Sun Peaks, BC from May 31 - June 2, 2023.
The winning students and their project
SCARP students Rory Buckman, Sydney Edwards, and Madelaine Parent have been working throughout the year in partnership with the Tenant Resource & Advisory Centre on their project:
"Strengthening Tenant Protections in Redevelopment"
The Tenant Resource & Advisory Centre seeks to develop strategies for tracking and monitoring the efficacy of tenant resettlement programs meant to limit displacement from redevelopment schemes.
Given that it is not clear how effective these programs are, the objectives are to:
Complete a comparative study of local and municipal tenant protections in urban areas across Canada, with an eye to evaluating outcomes;
With this information, build a framework for evaluating existing and proposed tenant protection schemes; and
Develop a proposal for building the infrastructure necessary to track tenant relocation outcomes in BC
