On Thursday, November 23, a new cohort of SCARP grad students celebrated their graduation with loved ones, mentors, and peers.
For SCARP, while this milestone is a testament to their tremendous accomplishment, this ceremony of achievement could also be rightfully placed either earlier or later in their journeys:
Even as students, the graduating class of Fall 2023 have accomplished extraordinary works in partnership with the larger BC community and earned professional networks, experience, and clout that will last them a lifetime. And, long after they are accredited with their degrees, SCARP grads continue to learn from each other and immerse in SCARP's community to access and share resources.
A word to our graduates:
Planning is a pursuit of partnerships and learning, and in this century, at its best Planning is a pursuit of unpacking. As much as a School of Planning has knowledge and tools to share, the generation emerging now into their own is often defined by transcending insight and transformational movement. You have all seen beyond the world of today into what it is trying to become. Now you walk on, harbouring SCARP's tools and your own inspiration for what's possible.
That's why SCARP's vision is "Knowledge in Action - Planning in Partnership".
That's why Applied Science's vision is "Transforming Tomorrow".
That's why UBC's vision is "Tuum Est": "It is yours".

"I grew up on SimCity 2000, National Geographic atlases, and the impact of ambitious light rail extensions to Washington County in Portland, Oregon. Though I studied urban planning upon decades of enthusiasm and lived experiences, working with driven and determined teammates has been the most fulfilling part of the journey."
