Student Career Resources

Planning Resources

Careers in planning are diverse and varied. Many alumni have found that networking during the course of their studies is the most effective way to have access to jobs as they become available. Actively developing relationships with professionals as you work on your directed studies, internship, capstone project or thesis will help develop your network and your exposure to emerging possibilities.  Simply getting involved in the larger community and getting to know people working in the field are excellent ways to get your planning career started.  This is one reason professional experience, involvement in your SCARP education, and building on the professional development skills introduced in the SCARP curriculum is all crucial.

While innovation and instinct in networking is key, below are some resources to help you make the right connections as well as find the positions that are formally recruited.

Current Opportunities in the Planning World

What follows can be anything from an entry-level Planner to an Assistant Professor in Planning. Please note this is in no way an exhaustive list, and we encourage interested students to proactively seek opportunities in the community, and keep apprised of what organizations have such opportunities. If you know of a job opportunity you'd like to share with the SCARP community, feel free to contact kyle.mallinson@ubc.ca with its information. Good luck!
