IRES Communications Assistant

The Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability is a problem-focused and curiosity-driven interdisciplinary research institute and graduate program. We are seeking to hire a student as a Communications Assistant to work directly with Faculty on their ongoing Communication initiative. The responsibility of this person would be to communicate and promote the work of IRES faculty, postdocs and students to a wider audience, through a variety of means including social and mainstream media

Duties include:

Research, writing and editing content for online materials (including tweets, infographics, posts and stories for Instagram, website posts)
Identify and act on opportunities for creative science communication to share IRES research and researchers
Engage with other partners at UBC to enhance the profile of IRES as well as connecting to new communities
Maintaining and updating IRES website, including posting weekly news, job postings as well as creating new content
Oversees the content of the unit’s digital signage platform, creating material as needed

Qualifications:

The individual will be required to demonstrate interest and experience in science communication for a general audience, and the ability to engage with the breadth of research across IRES. They will require the ability to work independently as well as strong writing and communication skills.
The IRES Communications Assistant will be required to work 10 hours per week. We are looking to hire on a one-year term with possibility of extension. They will report to the Director, IRES and Communications Committee. Salary commensurate with experience.


All applicants must be eligible to work in Canada. Experience and knowledge with science communication, science writing and interdisciplinary research preferred
