The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) Community Services Department has an opening for a summer position for a Planning Student. This position assists RDCO Planning staff on a number of projects identified in the Regional Growth Strategy, Priority Projects Plan and other projects identified in our 2020 work program. Planning staff continues to work on various department initiatives such as the Regional Floodplain Management Plan and we will continue to pursue discharge of all Land Use Contracts in accordance with Provincial legislation.
The Planning Student will also assist with day-to-day technical planning duties such as coordinating meetings, processing applications, researching information and assisting with public inquiries.
Planning Services Mission Statement:
To promote coordinated planning that addresses issues affecting municipal and electoral jurisdictions within the Central Okanagan, in order to manage growth and support human settlement that is socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable.
To provide professional planning services in regard to development and implementation of land use policies, and in the evaluation of development applications, to enhance the quality of life and environment within the Electoral Areas.
With the above in mind, a student who is enrolled in a Canadian Institute of Planners recognized university planning program would be a good fit for this position. Student program eligibility requirements are that the successful applicant must be currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year. Applicants must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. A Driver’s Abstract with record of safe driving is required.
The position will commence May 4, 2020 and conclude August 28, 2020, however we are flexible to meet school requirements. We offer a wage of $17.50 per hour, 35 hours per week.
