The Social Impact Lab - Faculty

My name is Sydney Kroes and I am the Community Engagement Assistant at the UBC Centre for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL).

I would greatly appreciate if you can send this to the faculty in your department.

Event Invitation to the Social Impact Lab:

On April 24th, CCEL will be launching a new program series called Collaboratory with an event titled “Social Impact Lab”. This event brings together community organizations, UBC students, staff, and faculty to celebrate previous university-community collective actions and identify current social issues in Vancouver. Participants will have the opportunity to join other passionate attendees to engage in a collective action project over the summer.

For this first event, we will be focusing on issues around poverty reduction, access to services, housing, environmental sustainability, mental health, Black Neighbourhood Revitalization, refugee settlement, and healthy masculinity/non-violence from an Indigenous perspective.

Since the paramount goal of this program is to develop collective action projects, this program is looking for faculty who would be able to provide their knowledge to aid such projects carried out over summer.

This presents an opportunity to apply your research and subject expertise within a local context while gaining a hands-on understanding of how to align your syllabus with issues in the community. It is also perfect for faculty in Vancouver this summer interested in social change or faculty with grant ideas who want to connect with community organizations.

Attached to this email is an informational poster, and a classroom announcement slide (PDF).

We would really appreciate if you can share the slide in your final lecture and post it on canvass for your students.
