Job Description

Under the direction of the Graduate Student Development Officer, the School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) Summer Program Assistant provides support for the development, implementation, and evaluation of on and off campus programs and events for cohorts of visiting international students. This position is particularly relevant for any student interested in program and event planning, logistics coordinating, leadership development, program evaluation, and working with international students. The Summer Program Assistant is a part-time student position.

The Summer Program Assistant will primarily support the Vancouver Summer Program (VSP). The VSP is a four-week academic program offered by the School of Community and Regional Planning, among other Faculties, at the University of British Columbia, Canada for students from various international universities. The program runs two sessions, one throughout June and July, and the other throughout July and August. The VSP provides the opportunity for visiting international students to take two academic courses while learning about Canadian practices and culture through social and academic-oriented events and excursions.

The Summer Program Assistant provides an integral role in planning, implementing, and evaluating social and academic-oriented events and excursions (e.g. hiking trips, city tours, sports games, and trivia nights), engaging and communicating with the visiting students (e.g. answering emails and in-person inquiries, and using social media), and promoting the School of Community and Regional Planning to an international audience.
