C2ER and LMI Institute are proud to announce our two fall training classes. The Basic LMI Analyst and Applied Analyst Training will be held October 24 - 26, 2018 at the Courtyard Arlington Rosslyn in Arlington, VA.

 

 

 

Basic LMI Analyst Training

 

Are you new to the workforce or economic development field? This course provides novice labor market information (LMI) analysts with an introduction to LMI and basic analytical methods that support state and regional workforce development strategies. Through discussions and hands-on exercises, participants will gain exposure to various workforce, demographic, and economic data sources and apply basic analytical skills to answer real-world questions that policy makers and practitioners encounter. Topics covered in this course include:

  • Understanding core LMI programs & other data sources
  • Conducting basic occupational analyses
  • Using Local Employment Dynamics
  • Exploring real-time LMI applications
  • Communicating effectively with customers

While there is no pre-requisite for this course, some experience with Excel formulas and functions is strongly recommended.

Target Audience: This course is designed for novice labor market information analysts. New researchers from workforce-related organizations, such as community colleges and workforce investment boards, may also find this course helpful.

 

Applied Analyst Training

 

More advanced analysts with two or more years of experience are encouraged to participate in this 2.5 day course which teaches economic development researchers and labor market information (LMI) analysts advanced skills in collecting, analyzing, and presenting regional economic and labor market data to answer questions about key industries, workforce supply and demand, education and training needs, and demographic trends in pre-defined regions. Working in groups, participants master skills in the following areas:

  • Building demographic & economic profiles
  • Measuring economic health & competitiveness
  • Conducting industry & occupational trend analyses
  • Combining labor market & education data to anticipate skill needs
  • Presenting and communicating data effectively

While there is no pre-requisite for this course, intermediate to advanced skills in Excel are highly recommended.

Target Audience: This course is designed for practitioners with two-to-five years of experience in economic and/or labor market analysis.

Note: This class is only offered once a year.
