TOBACCO PLAINS INDIAN BAND COMMUNITY PLAN PLANNING PRACTITIONER (IN FULFILLMENT OF MA IN PLANNING) OCT, 2013—PRESENT • Relationship Building: Worked in collaboration with Tobacco Plains Band Manager, Community Plan Coordinator and community members to facilitate plan and implement a Community Plan for the Band. • Community Engagement Strategy: Strategized, planned events, and designed interactive activities with the community to foster a community-driven planning process. • Facilitation: Employed a variety of tools and techniques to facilitate the planning process and build capacity within the community and the planning team. • Research and Analysis: Applyed planning theory, methodology and analytical frameworks to interpret and summarize vast amounts of information from multiple sources (community, previous plans, band staff). • Documentation: Use of audio/visual, social media and printed formats to document the planning process and the final community plan. VANCOUVER NATIVE HEALTH SOCIETY PROGRAM COORDINATOR ASSISTANT MAY, 2013—DEC, 2013 • Grant Writing: Prepared proposal and budget for building infrastructure at the UBC Farm. Successful in procuring grant of $9,000 from the UBC-Community Learning Initiative for project implementation. • Communication: Collaborated with Musqueam First Nation leader, Elder Larry Grant, to establish and follow Musqueam cultural protocols during the Teepee operation in their Traditional territory. • Presentation: Presented the final results of the project to the UBC Community Learning Initiative. URBAN NATIVE YOUTH ASSOCIATION FOCUS GROUP RESEARCHER OCT, 2012—DEC, 2012 Management: Planned and conducted comprehensive focus group research with emphasis on Residential School literacy. Worked in collaboration with senior management and counselors with highly confidential information and gained first-hand knowledge of the impacts of Residential Schools on First Nations Youth. Communication: Designed, planned, implemented and facilitated focus group sessions. Chaired and facilitated 6 group meetings and information-sharing circles, and prepared reports, presentations and results to senior management officers Research: Concluded, analyzed, and finalized research results. Collected, transcribed and codified six hours of data from focus group sessions. Analyzed, categorized, and summarized data results into a final report. Prepared and presented the final report and further recommendations to senior management officials on future youth programs. UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT BOARD OF DIRECTORS, SUSTAINABILITY STUDENT COORDINATOR SEPT2008—AUG 2010 • Management: Managed, planned, and directed various sustainability projects at the student union building. • Communication: Communicated, negotiated, and collaborated with diverse stakeholders ( Student Union, University administration and student body) and administered the organization’s internal policy files, including accountability for the sustainability student grant program. • Collaboration: Worked in collaboration with 5 other students to improve sustainable practices in the student union building by encouraging reusable water bottles and implementing a water fountain facility. • Presentation: Organized meetings and prepared reports and presentations to the University’s administration and student union organizations. POWER OF HOPE/ BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB/ CANADA WORLD YOUTH/ IMMIGRANT SERVICE SOCIETY of BC YOUTH EDUCATOR JUNE 2009—JULY 2012 • Creative Skills: Developed and facilitated youth empowerment workshops on cross-cultural and environmental issues for youth between the ages of 14 to 19 years old. • Communication Skills: Translated information from English to Portuguese during cross- cultural activities and lectures.
