Sara Ortiz Escalante
Bio and CV
I was born and raised in Vilafranca del Penedes (Catalonia) where I lived until 2003. Since then I have been lucky to live in different countries: El Salvador, Mexico, USA, and now in Canada. I consider myself an activist and a feminist researcher. I have focused my work on gender equity, urban planning and safety from a gender perspective. Since 2009, I work with Col·lectiu Punt 6, a group of feminist planners and architects in Barcelona interested in rethinking the built environment from a gender perspective. Through my dissertation I would like to analyze how planning affects everyday/everynight life of women working at night, and in particular, the impact of gender violence, safety issues and transportation. During this journey, I have been accompanied by my two daughters, Lila and Maia, born during my PhD experience.
