My planning focus is in the area of disaster and risk management planning, with am emphasis on policy and water related planning issues. Before coming to SCARP, I worked in GIS for a few years, went to an American law school known for environmental law, then practiced law for the City of New York and at a private business law firm. I moved back to Vancouver last year to be near family (I went to high school in North Vancouver). Since being back, I've really enjoyed learning everything about Vancouver, BC and Canada, particularly in the planning context and in the setting of SCARP. I am looking forward to applying the analytic and critical thinking skills that I've gained from law practice to this collaborative and community enhancing pursuit. Currently, my aim is to work in the disaster/risk management planning field in the local area for at least a few years, then perhaps go on to work in this area in an international context, in either New York or Latin America (where I spent my childhood).
In my spare time, I snowboard, hike/backpack/camp, run and play tennis. I like the rain and love the snow. I love to cook and eat, and I'm into board games. I look forward to meeting you.
I've done a lot of volunteering: I've tutored middle-school level math and done a slew of one-day activities like painting public schools. I mentored an inner-city high school kid and served as a small claims court arbitrator in New York for about four years. Here in Vancouver, I help out with a local food awareness group as a social media/press coordinator and have volunteered as a legal researcher for Ecojustice.
Urban Design; Quantitative Analysis; Policy Analysis; Ecological Planning.
I volunteer with UBCM (Union of BC Municipalities) on their policy files. Before starting the planning program at SCARP, I worked in GIS for about three years before becoming a lawyer.
