Maged Senbel wins dean's award for service excellence

SCARP's Associate Professor and Associate Director, Maged Senbel was presented with the Dean's Award for Excellence in Service of the Faculty of Applied Science for his exceptional work with the School of Community and Regional Planning students and administration. Maged taught the second year MCRP Planning Studios in 2016-17, connecting with external community partners who contributed real-life projects and financial support for each student. The studio year ended with successful student presentations for students' partners and families held at the Anvil Centre, at the City of New Westminster.

Maged's nomination for the Dean's award stated:

  • "His leadership and service contributions benefit not only SCARP, but APSC at large in his development of innovation in teaching, concrete contributions to experiential learning and service-oriented teaching, positioning SCARP and APSC (Faculty of Applied Science) as active agents in academic/community collaborations in research and practice."

Students in PLAN 526 - Planning Studio course also recognized Maged:

  • "Maged has contributed an unimaginable amount of time to the creation and success of the planning studio course. Without his guidance and mentorship, each of our projects could not have been as successful and as rewarding as they have been. His level of personal investment, including hours travelling away from his family and numerous professional commitments, have not gone unnoticed by the students, and we are extremely thankful to have had him as a champion for this course.”

Maged was awarded the Killam Graduate Teaching Prize in 2011.
