Dr. Wayne Beggs has joined SCARP as part-time Instructor for the MCRP Indigenous Community Planning concentration.
Dr. Beggs holds a Doctorate in Urban Planning and Public Policy from the University of Texas at Arlington, a Master of Environmental Design (Planning), from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design. He is a Visiting Scholar in the Geography Program at Simon Fraser University. Hailing from Vancouver, Wayne is of Indigenous and Métis descent.
He comes to academia following a career in government and consulting, which included work with: rural Community Futures programs; Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada; the Federal Homelessness Program; and, Western Economic Diversification Canada. He was also Manager Economic Development for the City of Coquitlam, a Director on Metro Vancouver Commerce and practiced consulting on governance, planning and economic development.
Wayne sits on the Board of Directors of the Egg Farmers of Canada, representing the Consumers’ Association of Canada. He also sits on the Board of the Coastal Jazz Society. He has two adult daughters and lives in East Vancouver with his partner, Wendy.
