Cornelia Oberlander, Vancouver landscape architecture pioneer: in memoriam

Cornelia Oberlander was the wife of Peter Oberlander, who in 1951 launched our School and was appointed Director. Penny Gurstein attended the service yesterday (viewable online) and has written the following in tribute.

It is with deep sadness the School shares with news of the death of Cornelia Hahn Oberlander on May 22, 2021 at the age of 99.  Cornelia was a world-renowned landscape architect, and a great friend of our School, along with her late husband, H. Peter Oberlander, founding director of SCARP.

Cornelia Oberlander's career was remarkable in its breadth and significance. She championed sustainability long before others, and created environments that were humane and beautiful. She will be profoundly missed.

For further details on her life and career, see the Vancouver Sun's article on her life.
