About

Want to know about the Biodiversity COP15 in Montreal and the CWN Platform?

Canadian local and regional governments have a unique opportunity to be involved this year.

The UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) will be held in Montreal December 7-19, 2022 and, for the first time, there will be a dedicated Summit and Pavilion focusing entirely on subnational and local government actions and opportunities.

ICLEI and their partners partners from the City of Montréal and the Province of Québec will congregate online to learn what this means for local governments in Canada and how Canadian municipalities can use the CitiesWithNature (CWN) Action Platform to ensure a strong showing from across the country.

Join this webinar Wednesday November 30 from 1:00 to 2:30pm Eastern Time to learn more about this unprecedented opportunity.

Speakers include:

  • Anne-Sophie Lapointe, Gouvernement du Québec
  • Michèle Picard & Joëlle Roy LeFrançois, Ville de Montréal
  • Ingrid Coetzee & Stefania Romano, ICLEI Africa Secretariat & Global Cities Biodiversity Center
  • Megan Meaney & Anne-Marie Legault, ICLEI Canada

Biodiversity COP15

The 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is an international meeting bringing together governments from around the world.  Participants will set out new goals and develop an action plan for nature over the next decade. The conference will be held in Montreal, Quebec, the seat of the UN CBD Secretariat, from December 7 – 19, 2022.

COP15 will focus on protecting nature and halting biodiversity loss around the world. The Government of Canada’s priority is to ensure the COP15 is a success for nature. There is an urgent need for international partners to halt and reverse the alarming loss of biodiversity worldwide.
